The new Visi Fine series of precious metal materials, including platinum alloy wire from TANAKA, has X-ray impermeability as well as oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.

Using radiation-shielding materials for components of medical devices may help clinical practitioners accurately position and operate these devices under X-ray guidance during intravascular catheterization procedures.

However, medical device design engineers may face challenges when designing such devices. “In the field of functional materials for medical devices, there are limited materials with high X-ray radiopacity,” explains Yusuke Minagawa, Manager of the Sales Department (in charge of medical device products) at TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES. “As a result, we recognize that there is an increasing need to develop new materials to achieve further performance improvements.”
