TANAKA’s new business initiatives span across automotive, semiconductor, medical, and various other industries, leveraging the functionality and recyclability of precious metals. In the next-generation energy sector, these metals play a vital role in achieving carbon neutrality through their applications in: Electrocatalysts for fuel cell and water electrolysis, Steam reforming catalyst, Water-gas shift reaction(WGSR) catalyst, and Preferential oxidation(PROX) catalyst for methane reforming, Methanation catalysts and Reverse water-gas shift reaction catalyst.
■ Global Leadership in Fuel Cell Catalyst
As the world’s largest supplier of electrocatalyst for fuel cells, TANAKA is expanding its production capabilities to meet growing global demand. A new production facility in China is set to begin operations in 2026. Additionally, we supply a variety of hydrogen-related and carbon-neutral catalysts to global clients, supporting both prototype development and mass production.
■ Focus at This Forum: Ammonia-Related Catalysts
At this forum, we will introduce TANAKA’s ammonia-related catalyst. TANAKA’s Ammonia Reforming Catalyst efficiently converts ammonia into H₂ and N₂ at lower temperature. By leveraging the expertise gained over years of developing Methane Reforming Catalysts, we have successfully applied this technology to ammonia reforming. By adjusting the amount of precious metal supported, we optimize the system’s performance, durability, and cost according to customer requirements. Furthermore, for off-gas treatment in reforming systems, TANAKA’s Ammonia Purification Catalyst is highly effective. It oxidizes and decomposes trace amounts of ammonia in off-gas while minimizing NOx and N₂O emissions, converting it into harmless N₂ and H₂O. Our in-house designed and manufactured metal honeycomb substrate is made of ferritic stainless-steel foil, providing high surface area and strength. We tailor the size, shape, and pressure loss characteristics to meet each customer’s system specifications.
