ruthenium
Ruthenium (Ru) is used in one of the layer configurations of hard disk platters (magnetic disks) used as storage devices for computers, helping to increase recording capacity.
Hard disk drives (HDDs) have increased their recording capacity by raising the density of magnetic signals in the planar direction. However, if the density is increased too much, limitations arise in the stable storage of data.
As a result, magnetic signals are recorded vertically in order to further increase recording density. Ruthenium is an essential material for achieving this "perpendicular magnetic recording".
